How it’s going
It’s been a month. I’ve been using both of my Traveler’s Notebooks frequently, as well as some of my other unused notebooks that have now found a new purpose. I’ve built an entire notebook ecosystem and it’s been a lot of fun.
I enjoy the memory keeping in my calendar tremendously. I put down stickers and write little sentences (in Korean, because I want to create an incentive to really learn the language) about my day and I doodle a little here and there. It’s been great fun! I’ve even had a dear friend write something in there when I last saw him.
I have a “To Do Book” that tracks my most frequent tasks with stickers on a weekly basis, and the journal in the back has also integrated itself flawlessly into my general routine. I can’t say I’ve ever been this good at keeping at it with all of my little notebooks.
Biggest benefits
What helps a lot, at least for me, is that most of the notebooks I use a lot are super thin – so if I feel like switching up my routine or what I use them for, I can do so in a fairly short frequency. The system is very adaptable to my mood and helps me to go wherever my brain wants to take me.
The notebooks also help me to lower my screen time, which I am very proud of. My phone has become such a secondary device by now and I feel more present than ever. I even started reading books again. And annotating them – that’s a new one.
The ecosystem
I have several notebooks in use now for a whole bunch of things:
I also own several sketchbooks, one of which I recently finished, and have started plotting out a book in yet another notebook (I have HEAPS lying around, shame on me), so I’m sure my collection of notebooks in use will only grow. And I can’t be more happy about it.
Final Thoughts
I love writing on paper. I love what it does to my brain, how it feels, how it helps me process unresolved feelings and dig into complex thoughts. I’ve learned that it’s a great way to get to know yourself better and it truly helps me heal.
I can’t wait to get back to you with another update a few months down the line. I only hope this joy I have found in my notebooks will continue to grow and evolve with me.

The ecosystem
I have several notebooks in use now for a whole bunch of things:
- “Letters I can’t Send” – for when I need to get stuff off my chest to people I don’t talk to anymore
- a Media Journal, where I can put down thoughts and feelings on the Books/Movies/Music and other Media I consume
- a Therapy Journal, where I can think on paper about the things I discuss in therapy and examine things my therapist says to me more in-depth
- a Gratitude Journal, where I can put down what I’m grateful for, so I don’t lose sight of all the good in my life
- a Commonplace Book, where I collect lyrics, quotes, bits of information and whatever else I find interesting for my own enjoyment
I also own several sketchbooks, one of which I recently finished, and have started plotting out a book in yet another notebook (I have HEAPS lying around, shame on me), so I’m sure my collection of notebooks in use will only grow. And I can’t be more happy about it.
